This week the world’s children will be getting out of their classrooms

When we think back to some of our happiest childhood memories, most of them were outdoors – what about you?

This Thursday (18 May), over one million children across the world – from Iceland to Australia – will be taking their learning outside the classroom. Outdoor Classroom Day is a chance to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. Thousands of schools around the world will take lessons outside and prioritise playtime.

Outdoor learning has many benefits, including improving children’s health, engages them with their learning and creates a better connection with nature. Playing teaches children critical life skills, such as teamwork or resilience, but it is also central to children’s enjoyment of childhood.

Good luck to all our Eco-Schools, and the thousands of other schools around the world, who are getting involved in Outdoor Classroom Day this year. You can find out more at outdoorclassroomday.org.uk or follow the hashtag #OutdoorClassroomDay on social media and we’ll be sharing some of the highlights over the coming weeks.
